If you find yourself asking these questions, then the Piedmont AHEC Scholars Program is for you. Scholars will develop new skills and are introduced to an interprofessional framework that will be crucial to improving health and health care. We teach, model and encourage a love of learning, collaboration and compassion for others. Working collaboratively to ensure every student achieves academically, socially and emotionally.
"WIIFM?" - What's in it for me?
The Piedmont AHEC Scholars Program will meet six times a year totaling 40 hours of didactic teaching. Forty hours of clinical work will need to be scheduled on a rolling basis as your academic schedule permits. Selected applicants to participate in the program will receive a stipend subject to academic or institutional approval. Upon completion of the program, NC AHEC Scholars receive the AHEC Community Health Scholar certification, setting them apart from other students in an increasingly competitive environment.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
The NC AHEC Scholars Program aims to meet multiple, identified gaps in the North Carolina health care workforce. Please see the below list of all accepted programs to participate in the Scholars program. In order to be eligible for the Scholars program, you must already be enrolled in one of these programs listed. Scholars must have reliable access to an internet connection, transportation, and must be eligible to work in the US. Each scholar will commit to the program for a total of 2 years. Applications from health professions students from disadvantaged and/or rural backgrounds, underrepresented minorities, and first-generation college will be heavily weighted. Each of the nine NC AHEC regions will select a group ofscholars that represent diverse backgrounds and institutions and a variety of health care professions, including dentistry, management science, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, social work, speech therapy, and many others. - As an NC AHEC Scholar, you’ll have access to a vast network, statewide NC AHEC resources and more—including the AHEC Digital Library, which you’ll find useful throughout your career in healthcare.
- You will be helping to create a high achieving multicultural community for learning.
- You will be able to go on and empower students to become Scholars.
- You will gain exposure to rural health and be a champion for health equity and distribution.

- Two general Letters of Recommendation. Please have your recommenders send their recommendation via email directly to Patricia Parrish.
