Words of Wisdom: Keep striving. Life changes and things may not go as you planned. Timelines alter and the road map may change, but keep pushing. Don't get caught up in hype of how fast society says you should achieve your goal. Sometimes things may get delayed in your life, but that does not mean it is a denial. Nobody can tell you how to live your life. Celebrate the victories, whether big or small; you deserve every accolade that comes your way because life can be hard. Keep the faith, focus, and drive and watch how God puts you in position for greatness. No one and I mean absolutely no one can block your blessings. Whatever God promised you will come to pass!

Words of Wisdom:
Pursuing your desired career will come with many trials. And due to that, it is important to find an institution to complete your higher education that will nurture you and help you grow. This means talking to faculty, visiting the campus, and speaking with students that are like you to understand if that environment will help you when you are at your lowest. Even after that, continue to rise up and stay motivated because a journey towards your hearts desire can be filled with twists and turns. But despite that, you must remember that you are prepared and you are deserving of accomplishing that goal. You will accomplish it!

Dr. Ciearra B. Smith
Words of Wisdom: If students are applying to graduate school with a focus in research, it is extremely important to seek out research internships, both internally to NCAT and external. Graduate schools put a lot of weight on research experience, and if you can conduct research and effectively communicate your research interests, this will make you competitive for graduate school. It is also important to keep an open mind in regards to research area. In my case, I wanted to conduct research in cancer, however I ended up doing thesis research in neuroscience. I had to keep my mind open to other areas of research, which proved to be beneficial to my training as a scientist.
